Additional Flying the Alaska Wild: The Adventures and Misadventures of an Alaska Bush Pilot Information

"Flying the Alaska Wild" is true grit stuff: a collection of fascinating stories about the rough-and-tumble life of an Alaskan bush pilot--straight from the pilot's seat. Recounting twenty-plus years of adventures, skilled storyteller Mort Mason presents his own death-defying tales, and also tells the legendary stories of other old-time bush pilots.

Flying through the wildly unpredictable weather conditions and unforgiving terrain of the Big Empty--where bush pilots find few paved runways, control towers, friendly voices on their silent radios, navigational aids, and few places to drop in for coffee and fuel for their flimsy planes--Mason honed his skill--and his luck--in a profession that just a few have the stamina to endure. Here, he recounts his more memorable flights and the conditions, circumstances, and admitted errors that made them so. For pilots and airplane buffs; Alaska buffs; hunters, guides, and outdoors enthusiasts.

What Customers Say About Flying the Alaska Wild: The Adventures and Misadventures of an Alaska Bush Pilot:

This book is candy for a pilot or aviation lover, and I am sure, still a very fun read for just about anyone. Fanatastical stories and colorful characters, kind of reads like several shorts in one book. In Mort's second book he tells a story of a pilot on final, who discovers the Polar bear cub in the cargo area of the plane, has somehow gotten un-trussed, awoken, and is climbing into the co-pilot seat, my kids LOVE to hear this story over and over again.Mort is the kind of man that tamed this great continent we live in, I would love to meet him and shake his hand.StephanStudent Pilot I kind of read Mort Mason's two books in the wrong order, but after accidentally stumbling upon his second book, I just had to read the first. Alaska has a certain romantic appeal to it, and Mort's writing style helps to put you there, and keep you coming back for more. The content is clean, so kids will also love this book, I have read many of the shorts to my 7 year old son Jageur.

I laughed so hard when I read about Mort trying to pee out the door while flying and it all came back inside. This has definitly opened my eyes to what bush flying is really like.

you will not be disapointed. My mother is next in line to read this book because of how great it sounded to her when I talked about it over the phone.

I would recomend this book to any pilot, because as we all know.pilots love to talk and swap stories with other pilots, and read about them as well. Do yourself a favor.get this book and add it to your collection.

I just finished this book yesterday, and loved every page that I read. I am a pilot and will be moving to Alaska in the next short while, and would like to try bush flying, which is why I got these books in the first place.

I will be starting on the sequel to this book tonight, and have high hopes for this one as well.

I true ambassador to the "Big Empty."Thanks Mort.Looking forward to your new book in February. Great read. My jaw was on the floor throughout the book. Mort left his email address in the back of the book and I emailed him about my upcoming trip. I am a pilot and wanted to tie in some Alaska float plane and bush flying training into the trip.

He gave me all sort of tips about the trip.Mort is not only a great bush pilot, but also a scholar and a gentleman. How did Mort survive all of these adventures. I wanted to know more about flying in Alaska before I just went out and booked some instruction, so I decided to pick up "Flying the Alaska Wild."What a great find. I have been to Alaska 3 times in the last 10 years as a ground based tourist and am planning a trip up to the "Big Empty" this summer with some friends and wanted to do the sightseeing by air. The book was filled with great stories about Mort Mason and his trials and tribulations as a Bush Pilot in Alaska.

Highly recommend it.The most amazing thing happened after I read the book.

He gives you good technical info on flying, but it's not dry and it's easy to understand, even for the non-flier (like me). An awesome read. He's an amazing writer, a gifted story teller and, apparently, a hell of a pilot as well. He imbues the book with humor and warmth, isn't afraid to make fun of himself, and he leaves the reader with a true understanding of how Alaska and bush flying can become a part of your soul and your identity. This book is fantastic. Oh, wow. Mort Mason's personality is hilarious, and he does an amazing job making life as an Alaska bush pilot come to life. His book makes me want to sit down on a wooden swing on the back deck of an Alaska cabin and listen to him tell stories all night long.

I'm a flight simulator fan. Well written. I enjoyed the book. The book is interesting and only a bit technical.
